Thanks. I like your colours, too.

[She reaches up to gesture at her Focus, a small white device on her temple. It lights up blue and the door unlocks behind June.]

It's actually my favourite place on the Barge. You can run it, though, you more more about where's best to sail.

[littlebattles]

The ocean would be best, or a very large lake.

[She heads in and over to the intercom; she's not one for directly programming the thing.]

You aren't from Earth, right?

[metalflower]

[ Aloy follows, looking around; even before the programming goes in, the Enclosure interests her. ]

I am, actually. Just a very different time. We don't have anything like this... I've never ever seen an ocean.

[littlebattles]

Okay.

[She pauses a moment, tapping her chin as she thinks.]

We'll take a calm summer day on a small sailboat, out on the Atlantic. Enough wind to make moving easy, but not so much that Aloy will risk losing control of the boat. Give us a nice view of the shore, too - how does Miami sound?

[As she speaks, the scene obligingly manifests itself around them.]

[metalflower]

[ Aloy turns to watch it all spring to life, looking like a kid in a candy shop; she's seen the Old Ones' buildings in holograms, but never like this, never a city. She immediately moves a few steps as if she could run to it, a hand out for balance. ]

Incredible... do you sail out here often, at home?

[littlebattles]

I used to, as often as I could. I could never afford a boat of my own--

[lol lies]

-- but I've had friends who would let me borrow theirs for a day. But that's all back on Earth.

[She sounds a little wistful here, and it's genuine; she does miss the ocean.]

[metalflower]

[Aloy isn't completely sure what a boat costs, but it seems like it might have a pretty high trade value. She smiles.]

Good thing we have the Enclosure. You could come out here every day if you wanted... I'm sure most wardens wouldn't mind.

[littlebattles]

[Stepping over to the sails, she starts readying them for departure, figuring she'll get them moving before starting in with the lesson; preparation is really the least interesting part.]

Is this you offering to unlock it for me?

[metalflower]

As long as you're not risking your life or anything in here, I don't see why not.

[littlebattles]

Rock-climbing's off the table, then?

[She flashes Aloy a smile.]

Don't worry. I'm not a big risk-taker.

[metalflower]

[A smile in turn.]

If you'd go rock-climbing, I'd go with you. Not because it's dangerous –– I just like rock-climbing, too.

[littlebattles]

I've never actually been, but I think you'll have to find another rock-climbing buddy. Not a fan of heights.

[Almost falling off a cliff will do that. And considering how Aloy is dressed...]

I'm assuming you do it without special equipment?

[metalflower]

Nothing special at all, actually. Just a rope, usually just for rappelling down from heights.

[She gestures at her hip, where a sizable length of rope is wound in a hank.]

What else do you like to do?

[littlebattles]

Oh, I like traveling. Big cities, tropical beaches... I'm really looking forward to my first port.

[metalflower]

Me too. I've never seen any big cities or beaches... I think it'd be exciting to visit them.

[littlebattles]

Never? Oh, Aloy, you're missing out.

[Finishing up with the last sail, June motions her over.]

When we're done here, we can sail closer to the shore and check out the one we've got here.

[metalflower]

[Aloy joins her.]

That sounds great. I've always wanted to see those places, but just never had the opportunity.

[littlebattles]

[She'll pause the conversation for a moment to talk Aloy through the basics of controlling the boat, gradually introducing the proper terminology (sails, lines, cleat, tiller, rudder) into her instructions. She's not a bad teacher, all things considered - she's patient, and she adapts her approach to Aloy's prior knowledge and skill set, neither glossing over anything she might seem confused by nor lingering too long on anything she seems to take to easily.]

So what kept you from traveling to the city?

[She asks, picking up the thread of their conversation once they've settled into a sailing rhythm.]

[Aloy is a quick learner, perceptive and consistently eager to jump in and try for herself. She knows nothing about sailing, but she's happy to learn.]

There aren't really any cities to go to. The biggest, Meridian, is still small compared to this... and it doesn't look anything like this, either.

[littlebattles]

This Miami won't have the same effect without all the people, but maybe we'll end up there in port someday. Tie this line for me?

[She holds one out, gesturing to the cleat. Let's see if you can replicate that knot she showed you a few minutes ago, Aloy!]

[metalflower]

[Aloy gets to it, making quick work of it. Knots can save your life in the wilds.]

I hope so. I want to see it at its busiest. Maybe during a festival or something.

[littlebattles]

The Miami Carnival is always a fun time. And given what I've heard of ports, I don't think the Admiral would touch us down when nothing is going on.

[She watches Aloy's progress closely, breaking into a grin when she successfully finishes.]

Good job. You're not a first-timer with those, are you?

[metalflower]

Nope. I have to be able to use my rope to get places but still get it back down once I get to the bottom, and sometimes I have to bundle things together to haul them to a trader... lots of useful knots for that.

[She grins.]
